Biography
The Mastermindz are a Philadelphia based production Team. The members are producers Philly Boi, Voltage and artist/songwriter Rich. Their niche is for underground and mainstream artist, record executives, movie soundtracks, television and more. They provide high quality production with no samples. tracks from The Mastermindz.
While their whole is greater than the sum of their parts - they each add a different set of experiences that allows them to offer diverse musical experiences. Richie has a background based in the arts, Voltage is more of the inventor, and Philly Boi is fassionable. They merge these seemingly different worlds to create one MasterMind!
Richie – Is art and creativity/creative arts, draw portraits, illustrations, can design anything from tattoos to buildings. One Day saw a picture and thought I could do it better. So just seeing things with my own eyes and producing it over in a self expressed and creative way.
Voltage – When I come up with music I want to make it shocking. I look at it as a musical inventor. I’m more into inventing things. Same way you find new trends. I find a new way to improve stuff, explore alleys that people have not been down before. Into music/inventing stuff. I was always a nosy child. I always wanted to make sounds even if it was banging on anything – walls, pencils, desks, everything was music to me.
Sura – I’m more of the fashion one. I’m addicted to clothes. I have a thousand ideas in my head. I don’t know what I’m about to wear until I’m about to get dressed. At that moment I just pick out stuff. My goal is not to match. Music approach is similiar? Pretty much. I will stop the whole track to ad 1 little sound. It’s gotta be perfect. Likewise with music don’t wanna be the same. Find some way to stand out and define new trends.
Their music is inspired by Life. From experiences to places we’ve been being a student of the music. “To master something you have to become a student of it. Do your homework. Look at the past present and the future. Not to copy or reinact but to take from and put your own flavor on it. Not just rival but to surpass other producers in the music world.”
While growing up together has helped to define the group they have difference experiences. All met in highschool. Richie and Voltage met 9th grade and Sura then in the 10th. Sura was one of the weird guys. didn’t speak to anyone. would branch off. Isolated. All come from the same place and try to strive through the same things just to make it. Higher living.
Various backgrounds
Sura aka Philly Boi – I was initially influenced by Jay-Z’s song who u with, from there became interested in script writing bc I could express more because I could elaborate more in a script whereas a song you only have so many lines in a song. At the screen fest in 07 T-Pain was performing and at the end the crowd was so loud and the look in his face of amazement of the love he received made me interested in music. I was never really the rapper per say. I could write I just couldnt rap it. So you began producing as a form to express through the music and help other people express themselves.
Voltage – Influences Soulja Boy because the stuff he came out with although it was so corny it came to the point where he made it work. Regardless of what you do you can achieve something. Soulja boy is still corny to me it’s just the work ethic. not timbalan and the neptunes like most people say but I’m influenced by everyone bc there making it happen. You have pioneers that did stuff and the people who are doing things now. It always takes one person to help everyone else out. Out of all the things that I tried to invent music seemed to work more. Everything else failed. When I was little I played violin etc but it got to the point where technology came out and you got to try new things.
Richie – My biggest inpsiration to this day he says stuff so real and makes it hot. One line I can’t forget “I was sick about awards couldn’t nobody cure me only playa that got robed kept all his jewelry. in the song Diamonds are forever, he is taking real life issues and his perspective of himself and himself in the media and writes lyrics that represent hip hop. True feeling from the heart and puts it into something that he can produce so that people could understand what he is saying and where he is coming from. and even in Taylor Swiff he wasn’t afraid to speak his mind. He is himself and he is not worried about what other people think of him. He is not afraid to dress in a style that fits him. He is wearing what he is supposed to wear. the book bag thing didn’t get popular till he did it. (Power remix- how can one man have so much effect on the media) be myself, say what I want but people know where I’m coming from. He’s not arrogant cocky etc. he is him (and help the artist/empower them to express their own individuality).
